Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar/Apr 13
(15% on the samplelabel): Bright, full medium ruby. Liqueur-like aromas ofblackberry, cassis and licorice complicated by a musky truffley quality. Velvety and rich, with a saline nuance to the highly concentrated dark berryand fig flavors. Finishes withstrong, dusty tannins and excellent length. 92points
2009 Cuvelier Los Andes Grand Malbec Mendoza - 91+ points
By Stephen Tanzer Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar/Apr 13 (the label on mysample said 16% alcohol): Deep saturated ruby. Crushed blackberry, licorice pastille, violet and a whiff of tar on the nose. An essence ofsuperconcentrated, very primary malbec on the palate, with intense cassis andblackberry fruit flavors complemented by chocolate and menthol. With itsalmost ruby port-like power and tannic spine--not to mention high alcohol--thisis almost painful today. Seven or eight years down the road, it may wellmerit a significantly higher score. 91+ points
2010 Cuvelier Los AndesColeccion Blend Mendoza
By Stephen Tanzer Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Mar/Apr 13 Mediumred-ruby. Aromatic, expressive nose offers blackberry, licorice, bitterchocolate and a touch of violet. Juicy and tightly wound but stillpliant, with lovely energy and shape to the flavors of dark berries, darkchocolate and licorice. Finishes fresh and ripely tannic, with ayouthfully medicinal quality to the lingering black fruit and licoriceflavors. This very promising wine needs a few years in bottle to soften. 90(+?) points
